Kindergarten - Geometry Pet Toy Designers

This week the youngest class at St. Joseph’s Parish School demonstrated some very sophisticated creative talent as they designed and produced their own dog and cat toys. In this project, Mrs. French’s kindergartners practiced shape identification as an extension of their math curriculum. They explored how shapes could be put together to create desired forms or patterns. Each student traced shapes to make a pattern, cut out the pattern and traced it onto felt, cut the felt (with assistance), helped sew the pieces together (by pressing sewing machine pedal!), decorated their toys, stuffed them, and designed a packaging label! Phew!! All of that in 4 days and they did a spectacular job! Thank you to our mom helper, Mrs. Galvin, for her wonderful assistance!

Each kindergartner made 2 pet toys. These toys will come home with your child Monday or Tuesday of next week.
