Grade 4 - Detecting Problems & Designing Solutions

Mrs. Massullo’s 4th grade students spent a week in the Design-Build Studio solving real problems and designing solutions. To prepare for this project, the students became design detectives in their classroom. With their detective journals in hand, they took notes and sketched invention ideas that would improve the functionality of their classroom space. In the Studio, the students worked in pairs and designed some remarkable prototypes. Pencil bag holders, under chair storage, and silent closing lockers were just a few of the many wonderful concepts. These types of science based Studio projects give students the opportunity to utilize their creativity in an effort to improve the environment and solve a variety of problems for themselves and others
